Hospice
Facing a terminal illness may bring you feelings of helplessness, loss and sadness [We're here to help]. At Beach Terrace, we understand what you are going through. We are here to make a difficult time one of acceptance, compassion, and comfort.
Beach Terrace maintains an acute inpatient hospice program, which means that we accept admissions to our unit 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We are proud to be associated and work with the following programs to care for our residents:
- Good Shepherd Hospice Care Network
- Calvary
- Metropolitan Jewish
- Hospice of New York
Over the years we have shaped our hospice unit to meet the needs of our residents and families. Our 22-bed unit includes a family room/lounge and kitchen. We strive to do everything possible to accommodate our residents and families.
We recognize that the staff in our hospice unit need to provide something extra for the patients. That is why the staff on our hospice unit has been specially chosen. The care provided has a focus on comfort and is individualized to each resident.
"We recognize how difficult the decision is to place a loved one near the end of life in the hands of caregivers. That is why family support is a priority on our Hospice Unit. The entire family is welcomed, and our facility accommodates the individual needs of each patient and family to make every precious moment as peaceful and comforting as possible." - Heidi Martin, RN, CHPN - Nurse Manager of Hospice Unit
And, because our staff is dedicated to the unit, our residents are familiar and recognize our caregivers. Because our staff is dedicated to the unit, our residents are familiar with their caregivers.
"My mom had been at Beach Terrace for 2 years before being transferred to the Hospice Unit here. She has end stage dementia. There’s a lot of love in this place. The staff have given my mom very special treatment. They are very compassionate. They work with you all the time to address any requests and concerns. The nursing staff and aides are terrific. They all work well together and are an excellent team. Before coming to Beach we toured other facilities. We saw the difference here and felt that this was the right place. There is a feeling at Beach Terrace — something special. Beach Terrace has been a home to my mom — not a nursing home, but her home. And a home to me." - Paul G., son of long term resident pictured in the Hospice Unit's family kitchen
Things do not stop for the residents on our hospice unit. Care is provided based on individual needs and preferences, and residents participate in meals and regular activities taking place in the facility. Special activities, such as, music therapy and pet therapy, are provided to residents, as well.
